Life as a middle class Citizen in Malaysia

Malaysia..the land that brings many exciting experience, be it nature, shopping or culture one would never be short of being astonished by the synergy where it all comes together. The transformation that this country went through from agricultural to industrialisation saw many giant MNCs marking its presents here since the 80s and all throughout the 90s.

Being an 80s baby my self, I was never short of experiencing the life and the growth Malaysia went through. Back then, life was just laid back. Cost of living was low where you get Nasi Lemak for RM0.60 with enough rice for 2 person to eat. Goreng pisang was just RM0.20. My family and I lived a happy life with my mom choosing to work because she was bored at home as oppose to now where both spouses working is more of a necessity.

Nobody paid much attention to what the government was doing be it the right thing or the wrong thing. Racism was close to nil back then. In schools I had friends from different racial background where we only knew each other by name regardless of which race or ethnicity. Living in one of the largest housing estates established in Seremban, neighbours were friends. I remember the time where we used to visit each other during festivities and nobody questioned the integrity of each other. It was as if there was an unwritten rule that every race knows about the other and takes responsibility to ensure no offences are made.

Things have changed now. Cost of living is becoming from bad to worse. More and more of irresponsible government spending is brought to light. More and more racial flags were waved. Why? what happened to the Malaysia that I once knew? Name calling such as "pendatang" from senior government ministers and community leaders are more rampant. Telling the people to get out of the country if they don't like the current government is yet another call that was uttered lately. It all boils down to on thing, which I would strongly advocate and that is, the people in general are getting smarter but he government and the politicians alike are getting stupider as time goes by.

Therefore the ultimate question the looms in me...did we really achieved independence? What was difference to the concept of divide and rule that were employed by the British then followed by the communist to the the present government's management style?

To my utter surprise, there are still many among the Rakyat who lack the brain power to differentiate a politician who is sincere and who is there to make quick bucks. Lies after lies, threatening along the racial lines are all blatant acts of irresponsible person. How can such person vow to protect the religion when the motive was wrong to begin with? And yet many fall for it and act along this line forgetting that end of the day religion, race and customary is not going to put food on your plate.

It is job opportunity, education revamp, economic revamp and responsible government that makes this whole thing happen. Are there yet to accept political change? I believe we are not ready but change is inevitable. It is going to be a bumpy ride that hopefully takes its natural cause.

Religion is personal. Keep it to yourself. Your believe is yours to enjoy. The fact is Malaysia is multiracial country. Whether we like it or not knowing each other is compulsory to live along each other. This country will loose if we as responsible citizen allow these politicians, NGOs or even individual who keep harbouring about racial and religious right to rule. 50 years of independence will go down the drain. Many smart and intelligent people will leave the country. 50 years of independence, we are still consumers of technology. When will we create technology? when will we develop knowledge for others to follow? when will we be known in sports? Governing along the racial line will lead this country to doom.

Let us hope the year 2014 will see a move towards a changing society that unite against government or ministers or officials that shows idiotic behaviour. At the end of the day, they drive off in a merc or bmw or owns a bungalow. You and I don't. So..whose well being are we fighting for? Did the Allah issue, whoever won the battle resolve your economic standings? Did the commotion about qorban in school vicinity get you a pay rise? So in the end what are we fighting for? Why are we the everyday rakyat are at logger heads for the benefit of the politicians?

May God be with us all...
